Job Description

About Atomic Vest

We are a fast-growing, mission-driven company powering the expansion of financial services and wealth creation, with billions of assets under management. We build critical financial infrastructure that allows consumer-facing companies to offer engaging investing experiences to their customers in a frictionless way. We host advanced investing capabilities ranging from ESG investing to multi-currency trading across 60 global markets. We are a team of financial empowerment enthusiasts who have come together from various industries, including tech, banking, finance, and law.

At Atomic, with billions of dollars in assets under custody, you will help build the front end that helps make it easier for ordinary individuals to secure their financial prosperity. Come join an exciting opportunity to make a lasting impact!

Location: Atomic is a remote-first company, and this role is fully remote; however, candidates must be based in Canada or LATAM in the Americas Timezone (GMT-4 to GMT-8)

About the role

You’ll be our lead front-end engineer and operate like a founding product engineer: owning our partner-facing web products end to end, shaping what we build as much as how, and working directly with product, design, and backend engineers. This role is for a self-starter who wants real ownership and is happy to step outside a narrow job description when the team needs it.

What you’d work on

  • Partner-facing web products, owning them end to end from design handoff through to release.

  • The embeddable onboarding module. This is the white-label, co-branded UI that fintech partners embed so their customers can open brokerage accounts, both individual and business. It covers multi-step application flows for business accounts, adding and verifying owners and signers, and identity and compliance checks. One codebase produces several apps and partner-specific builds.

  • The partner dashboard. Partners use it to view and manage their customers’ accounts: positions, statements, account reporting, joint and advisory account details, and settings such as notification contacts.

  • Self-service features that cut down on manual operations work, for example, letting partners edit business details or add participants to existing accounts without filing a support ticket.

  • Moving to a new version of our business-account API. That means rebuilding flows on a new data model in step with backend engineers.

  • Keeping two codebases healthy, including bringing the onboarding module’s dependencies up to date with the dashboard’s.

Our frontend stack

  • Core: TypeScript, React, Vite, Tailwind CSS

  • Components: Radix UI and React Aria, with Storybook for component development

  • Forms and data: React Hook Form with Zod, SWR

  • Server-side: Node.js (Koa) talking to our services over gRPC

  • Integrations: Plaid, Persona, Auth0, LaunchDarkly

What you will excel at

  • 4+ years building production web applications with React and TypeScript.

  • Building complex, multi-step forms and data-heavy screens, with careful validation, edge cases, and error states.

  • Working in the Node.js server layer behind our web apps (Koa, gRPC, Postgres), not just the browser.

  • Agreeing on API contracts with backend engineers, and pushing back when an API makes the UI hard to build.

  • Working directly with design and product, turning Figma designs and product tickets into shipped features.

  • Owning the release process: our workflow runs from preview environments through UAT to production.

Who you are

  • A product engineer: you care about the user experience and the business problem, not just the ticket, and you’ll push back or propose a better approach.

  • A self-starter who is self-motivated and independent: you find the next most important thing and do it without waiting for direction.

  • Comfortable with ambiguity and with wearing many hats. In a small team, that means picking up work outside your core area when it matters.

Nice to have

  • Fintech, brokerage, or banking experience, especially account onboarding with identity and compliance checks.

  • Experience building white-label or embeddable products for B2B customers.

  • Experience integrating fintech SDKs such as Plaid or Persona, or e-signature tools.

  • Comfort with AI-assisted development such as Claude Code, which the team uses heavily.

🎯 Who is this job for?

Level: Senior Front-End Software Engineer / Lead Product Engineer with 4+ years of professional experience building production applications with React and TypeScript.

Required skills: TypeScript, React, Vite, Tailwind CSS, complex forms, validation, data-heavy interfaces, Node.js, Koa, gRPC, Postgres, API design, release workflows, and close collaboration with product, design, and backend teams.

The ideal candidate should be familiar with owning web products end to end, developing multi-step onboarding and compliance flows, building dashboards and self-service features, maintaining multiple codebases, and working independently in ambiguous, fast-moving environments; fintech, white-label, Plaid, Persona, or brokerage experience is advantageous.

💬 Potential Interview Questions

How would you architect a multi-step brokerage account onboarding flow using React, TypeScript, React Hook Form, and Zod?

I would model each step with a typed schema, compose them into a flow-level validation strategy, and persist progress safely between steps. React Hook Form would manage field state and performance, while Zod would provide shared validation and strongly typed form data.

How would you build a white-label onboarding module that supports multiple fintech partners from one codebase?

I would separate core business logic and reusable components from partner-specific configuration such as branding, copy, feature flags, and API settings. A typed configuration layer combined with theme tokens and build-time or runtime partner selection would reduce duplication while preserving customization.

How would you handle asynchronous data fetching and cache management with SWR in a partner dashboard?

I would use stable, parameterized cache keys and configure appropriate revalidation, optimistic updates, and error handling. After mutations, I would invalidate or update affected keys so positions, statements, account settings, and reporting data remain consistent.

What are the key considerations when integrating Plaid, Persona, or similar identity and compliance services?

I would isolate provider-specific SDK logic behind application-level interfaces, handle loading, cancellation, retries, and failure states, and avoid exposing sensitive data unnecessarily. I would also design for webhook or server-confirmed status rather than trusting only client-side completion events.

How would you design the Node.js Koa layer that communicates with backend services over gRPC?

The Koa layer should translate HTTP requests into typed gRPC calls, normalize errors, enforce authentication and authorization, and validate inputs before invoking services. It should also provide structured logging, request correlation, timeouts, and safe mapping of backend errors to user-facing responses.

How would you collaborate with backend engineers to define an API for a complex business-account flow?

I would agree on explicit request, response, state-transition, and error contracts before implementation, including partial completion and idempotency requirements. I would raise UI concerns early, especially when the API requires excessive round trips or makes validation and recovery difficult.

How would you manage accessibility for reusable components built with Radix UI, React Aria, and Storybook?

I would use the accessibility primitives provided by Radix UI and React Aria, ensure correct labels, keyboard behavior, focus management, and screen-reader announcements, and test realistic interaction states. Storybook would document and exercise states such as errors, disabled controls, loading, and validation feedback.

How would you approach migrating an onboarding flow to a new business-account API and data model?

I would first map the old and new domain models, identify incompatible states, and define an incremental migration plan with backend engineers. Feature flags, contract tests, adapter functions, and targeted UAT would allow the new flow to be validated without destabilizing existing partner experiences.

How would you use LaunchDarkly when releasing a new partner-facing feature?

I would release behind a narrowly scoped flag, targeting internal users or selected partners first and monitoring errors and business metrics. The implementation should include safe defaults, clear ownership of flag removal, and consideration of both enabled and disabled code paths.

What would you include in a reliable release workflow from preview environments through UAT to production?

I would automate type checking, linting, unit and integration tests, build verification, and environment-specific configuration checks before deployment. Preview environments would support product and design review, UAT would validate partner workflows and integrations, and production rollout would use monitoring and progressive feature activation.

📋 Job Summary
