  • Deliver real value to our users by crafting beautiful book templates for their e-readers and for print;

  • Architect and develop highly scalable web applications;

  • Evaluate and improve the performance, durability, and security of applications in production;

  • Take ownership for your tasks and see features through from start to finish;

  • Help teammates improve when reviewing their work and appreciate feedback when they reciprocate.

🎯 Who is this job for?

Senior level: This role suits an experienced software engineer who is highly proficient in Node.js, Vue.js, TypeScript, NoSQL databases, modern HTML/CSS, and test-driven development.

The ideal candidate should be comfortable architecting scalable applications, building collaborative web tools and single-page applications, creating book templates, and improving production performance, security, and reliability.

They should also be familiar with end-to-end feature ownership, code reviews, remote teamwork, and ideally ShareDB, LaTeX, CSS preprocessors, LLM integrations, and deployment automation.

💬 Potential Interview Questions

How would you design a scalable Node.js and TypeScript backend for a collaborative book-editing application?

I would separate domain logic from transport and persistence layers, use strongly typed interfaces, and design stateless services where possible. I would also consider event-driven updates, efficient caching with Redis, observability, and horizontal scaling behind a load balancer.

How would you implement real-time collaboration in a Vue-based word processor?

I would use a collaboration framework such as ShareDB with operational transformation or a compatible conflict-resolution strategy. The client would subscribe to document updates, apply local optimistic changes, reconcile remote operations, and handle reconnects and version conflicts gracefully.

How would you structure a large Vue and TypeScript single-page application?

I would organize the application by business features, keep reusable UI components separate from domain-specific components, and use typed services for API communication. State should be centralized only where necessary, while local component state should handle isolated concerns.

How would you optimize the performance of a browser-based editor?

I would profile rendering and interaction latency first, then optimize document virtualization, debouncing, memoization, and unnecessary Vue reactivity. Code splitting, lazy loading, efficient DOM updates, and minimizing expensive layout or serialization operations would also be important.

How would you model book documents and related data in MongoDB?

I would choose embedding for data that is read and updated together, and references for large or independently managed entities. I would define indexes based on actual query patterns, enforce validation at the application boundary, and plan for document versioning and migration.

What role could Redis play in this application?

Redis could provide caching, session or rate-limit storage, distributed locks, and pub/sub support for coordination between application instances. Cached data should have clear expiration and invalidation rules so it does not compromise document correctness.

How would you apply test-driven development to a new editing feature?

I would begin with focused unit tests describing the expected domain behavior, then add integration tests for persistence and collaboration boundaries. Finally, I would cover critical user flows with end-to-end tests while keeping the test suite deterministic and fast.

How would you securely handle user-generated content and document-sharing features?

I would enforce authentication and authorization on every server-side operation, validate and sanitize inputs, and use parameterized database operations. I would also protect against XSS, CSRF, injection, insecure direct object references, and accidental exposure of private documents.

How would you generate reliable e-reader and print-ready book templates?

I would create a well-defined intermediate document model and separate content from rendering rules. Output generation should be deterministic, validated against representative books, and tested for pagination, typography, metadata, embedded assets, and format-specific constraints such as LaTeX or EPUB requirements.

How would you automate the build and deployment of a TypeScript and Vue application?

I would use GitHub Actions to run formatting, type checking, unit and integration tests, production builds, and security checks on every change. Deployments should use immutable artifacts, environment-specific configuration, staged rollouts where appropriate, and monitoring with a clear rollback strategy.
