🎯 Who is this job for?

This role is suitable for a Middle-level Front-end Engineer with at least three years of experience, solid React and TypeScript skills, and production experience with Next.js, including SSR, SSG, and routing. The ideal candidate should be skilled in building responsive and accessible interfaces from designs, integrating REST or GraphQL APIs and headless CMS platforms, and writing unit, component, and integration tests with tools such as Jest and React Testing Library. They should be comfortable independently delivering features, participating in planning and code reviews, debugging and refactoring, and using AI coding assistants critically in their development workflow.

💬 Potential Interview Questions

1. How would you decide whether to use SSR, SSG, or client-side rendering for a page in Next.js?

Use SSR when content must be fresh or personalized per request, SSG for stable content that can be generated ahead of time, and client-side rendering for highly interactive data that is not required for the initial page load. The choice should also consider SEO, performance, caching, and CMS publishing requirements.

2. How would you structure reusable React and TypeScript components for a news or entertainment website?

I would separate presentational components from data-fetching and page-level components, define clear typed props, and compose reusable primitives such as cards, headlines, media blocks, and responsive layouts. Components should have focused responsibilities and support variations through well-defined props rather than duplicated implementations.

3. How do you integrate a headless CMS with a Next.js application?

I would create a typed data-access layer for the CMS, map CMS responses into application-specific models, and expose the content through server components, route handlers, or page-level loaders. I would also handle preview mode, caching or revalidation, missing content, validation, and API failures.

4. What considerations are important when building accessible, responsive interfaces from design specifications?

I would use semantic HTML, keyboard-accessible interactions, visible focus states, appropriate labels, meaningful heading structure, and sufficient color contrast. Layouts should use responsive CSS with flexible sizing, tested breakpoints, optimized images, and behavior verified across devices and assistive technologies.

5. How would you consume and manage REST or GraphQL API data in a React application?

I would define typed request and response models, centralize API logic, and explicitly handle loading, success, empty, and error states. For GraphQL, I would keep queries focused and manage caching appropriately; for REST, I would use consistent request utilities and avoid duplicating transformation logic across components.

6. What is your approach to testing a React component with Jest and React Testing Library?

I test behavior from the user’s perspective by rendering the component, querying accessible elements, simulating realistic interactions, and asserting visible outcomes. I avoid testing implementation details and mock only external dependencies such as network requests, CMS clients, or browser-specific APIs.

7. How would you distinguish unit, component, and integration tests for this project?

Unit tests validate isolated functions, component tests verify UI behavior and state transitions, and integration tests validate collaboration between components, routing, data fetching, and service boundaries. A balanced test suite should emphasize critical user flows while keeping lower-level tests fast and focused.

8. How would you improve the performance of a Next.js front end delivering media-rich content?

I would optimize images and fonts, minimize client-side JavaScript, use server rendering or static generation where appropriate, and apply caching and incremental revalidation. I would measure results with Core Web Vitals and profiling tools before and after changes rather than relying only on assumptions.

9. How do you use AI coding assistants responsibly during development?

I use AI assistants to accelerate scaffolding, refactoring, test generation, and debugging, but I review every suggestion for correctness, security, accessibility, performance, and consistency with the codebase. I validate generated code with tests, documentation, static analysis, and code review, and I never share sensitive information unnecessarily.

10. Describe how you would take a front-end feature from a ticket to merged, tested code.

I would clarify acceptance criteria and dependencies, break the work into manageable tasks, implement the component and data flow, and add unit, component, or integration tests as appropriate. Before opening a pull request, I would verify responsive and accessible behavior, run checks locally, document trade-offs, and clearly communicate blockers or remaining risks.
