You’re skilled at designing and shipping high-quality code, with a strong focus on developer experience, scalability, and performance. You have contributed to shared frameworks or design systems and take pride in supporting others to adopt better development patterns.

As a Senior Frontend Software Engineer, you’ll contribute to and help shape the way our products are developed and experienced. Your work will help product teams deliver faster, safer, and more consistent customer experiences. You’ll actively collaborate with peers in Engineering and UX to build core user experiences on our Graykey platform that will be the digital front door for customers accessing the device.

In this role, you’ll be a builder, collaborator, and mentor. You’ll work alongside others to design reusable UI frameworks, modernize legacy codebases, and support engineering teams as they adopt improved patterns, tooling, and practices.

NOTE: Candidate must reside in The United States or Canada.

What You’ll Do

  • Contribute directly to our codebase, building features as well as addressing bugs and technical debt directly with an eye towards code quality and best practices.
  • Drive systemic improvements in frontend development practices, from shared frameworks to CI/CD and testing.
  • Collaborate with our Design group to find new, creative ways to enhance a user’s experience on a Graykey device.
  • Collaborate with our QA group proactively to support and enhance automated UI testing.

What We’re Looking For

  • 8+ years of professional frontend development experience and a Bachelor’s degree in a Computer Science, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field  OR
    • 6+ years of professional frontend development experience and a Master’s degree or PhD in a relevant field OR
    • 10+ years of professional frontend development experience.
  • 4+ years of professional experience with ReactJS and modern Javascript/Typescript.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an instinct for collaboration.
  • Strong knowledge of web security and front-end system design.
  • Proficiency with Git.
  • Basic Knowledge of Python3, and experience working with web frameworks like Flask, FastAPI, or Django.
  • Basic Knowledge of Linux fundamentals.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with AI/ML systems, both in terms of AI-assisted development and AI/ML-driven feature development.
  • Experience with software and hardware security for IoT devices.
  • Experience with containerization platforms like Docker or Kubernetes.
  • Experience with virtualization technology (Virtual Machine, QEMU, KVM).
  • Experience with Gitlab pipelines, and/or related CI/CD infrastructure development (Jenkins, Github, etc).

馃幆 Who is this job for?

This role is best suited for a Senior Frontend Engineer with 8+ years of frontend development experience and deep expertise in React, JavaScript/TypeScript, frontend architecture, and scalable UI systems. The candidate should be comfortable building reusable frameworks, improving developer experience, modernizing legacy applications, implementing CI/CD and testing practices, and collaborating closely with UX, QA, and engineering teams, with bonus experience in Python, Linux, security, containerization, or AI/ML technologies. They should have strong technical leadership skills, enjoy mentoring others, and be capable of driving long-term improvements in performance, maintainability, security, and engineering standards across large products.

馃挰 Potential Interview Questions

  1. How would you design a reusable frontend framework or design system used by multiple product teams?
I would focus on composable, accessible components, strong documentation, versioning, automated testing, and clear adoption guidelines to ensure consistency and scalability across products.

  2. How do you approach modernizing a large legacy React application?
I would modernize incrementally by introducing improved patterns, reducing technical debt, improving test coverage, and gradually replacing outdated components while minimizing disruption to users.

  3. What frontend security considerations are important for applications handling sensitive investigative data?
I would focus on XSS prevention, Content Security Policy (CSP), secure authentication flows, role-based access controls, secure session handling, and protecting sensitive information from unauthorized access.

  4. How would you improve developer experience across multiple frontend teams?
I would invest in reusable tooling, design systems, CI/CD automation, documentation, code generation where appropriate, and development workflows that reduce friction while maintaining quality.

  5. How do you optimize React applications for scalability and performance?
I use profiling tools, code splitting, memoization, virtualization, efficient state management, bundle optimization, and continuous monitoring of performance metrics.

  6. How would you collaborate with QA teams to improve software quality?
I would work closely with QA to automate testing, improve test coverage, define acceptance criteria early, and ensure that quality is considered throughout the development lifecycle.

  7. What role does CI/CD play in frontend engineering?
CI/CD enables automated testing, validation, and deployment, reducing manual errors while increasing release frequency and confidence in production changes.

  8. How would you approach building interfaces for security-focused products?
I would prioritize reliability, clarity, auditability, performance, and secure-by-default design principles while ensuring the user experience remains intuitive for technical users.

  9. How do you evaluate AI-assisted development workflows in engineering teams?
I view AI as a productivity multiplier that requires strong review processes, testing, security validation, and engineering judgment to ensure generated code meets production standards.

  10. What distinguishes a senior frontend engineer from a staff-level frontend engineer?
A staff engineer drives broader technical strategy, improves engineering systems across teams, mentors others, influences architecture and development practices, and creates organizational leverage beyond their individual contributions.
