Job Description
About Brave
Brave is on a mission to protect the human right to privacy online. We’ve built a free web browser that blocks creepy ads and trackers by default, a private search engine with a truly independent index, a browser-native crypto wallet, and a private ad network (opt-in!) that directly rewards you for your attention. And we’re just getting started. Already 100 million people have switched to Brave for a faster, more private web. Millions more switch every month.
The internet is a sea of ads, hackers, and echo chambers. Big Tech makes huge profits off our data, and tells us what’s true and what’s not. Brave is fighting back. Join us!

- Experience deploying and managing AWS services and web apps
- Experience writing GitHub actions
- Experience developing websites/applications that are localized across many languages
- Experience with A/B testing
- Experience using Figma
Responsibilities
- Communicate with Product, Growth, and Marketing teams to determine requirements for landing pages and web assets for new initiatives.
- Build high quality landing pages, and all other customer-facing web assets, driven by Product, Growth, and Marketing teams.
- Maintain/expand existing websites and web applications, and continuously improve them to a high engineering standard.
- Effectively translate designs into fully responsive and performant pages or apps, while collaborating with designers to arrive at the ideal balance of aesthetics and performance.
- Rapidly develop prototypes and experiments under tight deadlines.
- Ensure high-performance and availability.
- Maintain a high security standard.
- Set up and maintain redirects.
- Work collaboratively with geographically-distributed team members.
Working at Brave
- Industry-leader in privacy, with a research and engineering team that’s innovating everyday to keep people safer online and beat Big Tech
- Highly competitive salaries & benefits, and generous home-office stipends
- Fully remote team (no office, no commute)
- Welcoming, humble, ridiculously smart teammates, and a truly flat org structure

United States Candidates: The salary range for this role is $140,000 - $150,000 depending on experience.
π― Who is this job for?
This role suits a Senior-level Web Developer with 5–10 years of experience, strong expertise in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern frontend frameworks (preferably Svelte), as well as solid knowledge of SEO, performance optimization, and web security. The ideal candidate is comfortable working cross-functionally, handling rapid context switching, and building responsive, high-quality web assets in a remote, distributed team. They should have experience with rendering strategies, scalable CSS architecture, and be familiar with tasks like prototyping, A/B testing, maintaining web apps, and collaborating closely with Product, Design, and Marketing teams.
π¬ Potential Interview Questions
-
What are the differences between CSR, SSR, SSG, and ISR, and when would you use each?
CSR renders content in the browser and is useful for highly interactive apps; SSR renders on the server for better SEO and faster first paint; SSG pre-builds pages for performance; ISR allows incremental updates without full rebuilds. -
How do you ensure semantic and accessible HTML in large-scale projects?
Use proper HTML5 elements, ARIA roles when necessary, and enforce standards via linters and code reviews to maintain accessibility and SEO benefits. -
What CSS architecture methodologies have you used (e.g., BEM, utility-first), and why?
BEM provides clear structure and maintainability, while utility-first (e.g., Tailwind) speeds up development and ensures consistency; choice depends on team scalability and project needs. -
How do you optimize frontend performance for high-traffic websites?
Techniques include code splitting, lazy loading, minimizing JS/CSS, using CDNs, caching strategies, and optimizing images and fonts. -
What are key SEO considerations when building modern web applications?
Ensure proper metadata, semantic markup, fast load times, mobile responsiveness, and use SSR/SSG where needed to improve crawlability. -
How does Svelte/SvelteKit differ from frameworks like React or Vue?
Svelte compiles components at build time, reducing runtime overhead, while React/Vue rely on virtual DOM; SvelteKit adds routing and SSR capabilities out of the box. -
What security considerations should you keep in mind for frontend development?
Prevent XSS, CSRF, and clickjacking; sanitize inputs; use secure headers (CSP); and handle authentication tokens safely. -
How do CDNs improve web application performance and reliability?
CDNs cache content geographically closer to users, reducing latency, improving load times, and providing redundancy and DDoS protection. -
What is your approach to building responsive and cross-browser compatible layouts?
Use mobile-first design, flexible layouts (Flexbox/Grid), media queries, and thorough testing across devices and browsers. -
How would you implement A/B testing on a landing page?
Use feature flags or experimentation tools to split traffic, track user behavior via analytics, and evaluate performance metrics to determine the winning variant.
