π― Who is this job for?
This role is ideal for a Frontend Technical Lead with 7+ years of experience in JavaScript/TypeScript and at least 2 years using Next.js in production. Candidates should have proven leadership in scalable web architecture, performance optimization, accessibility, and strong skills in frontend testing, CI/CD, and Agile environments. Familiarity with GraphQL, WebSockets, and Node.js is a plus, especially in enterprise-scale applications.
π¬ Potential Interview Questions
-
When would you choose SSR, SSG, ISR, or Edge Rendering in Next.js?
SSR for per-request personalization, SSG for content that rarely changes, ISR for mostly-static pages needing periodic revalidation, and Edge for ultra-low-latency personalization close to users. -
How do React Server Components (App Router) change data fetching and bundling?
They run on the server, can fetch data without shipping fetching code to the client, and reduce bundle size; usefetch
with cache/revalidate options and stream UI with Suspense to avoid waterfalls. -
How would you prevent Core Web Vitals regressions at scale?
Optimize LCP (preload hero image/font,next/image
), minimize CLS (reserve space,font-display: swap
/next/font
), and reduce INP/TBT (code-split withdynamic()
, defer non-critical work, avoid long tasks). -
What techniques keep rendering smooth given browser layout/paint/composite behavior?
Batch DOM reads/writes, avoid layout thrash, use transforms/opacity for animations (GPU-friendly), leverage CSS containment, and memoize expensive React subtrees. -
What’s your approach to accessibility in a consumer app used by millions?
Semantic HTML first, robust keyboard navigation and focus management, ARIA only where necessary, color-contrast compliance, and automated checks (axe) plus assistive-tech manual testing. -
How do you structure testing for a Next.js codebase?
Unit tests with Jest/Vitest, component tests with React Testing Library, E2E with Playwright (including a11y scans), and contract/snapshot tests for critical server components. -
What does “production-grade” CI/CD for web look like?
Type/lint/test gates, bundle-size and Lighthouse budgets, preview deployments per PR, environment-specific configs, feature flags, canary releases, and automatic rollback on SLO/SLA breaches. -
How do you add observability to the frontend and tie it to backend traces?
Use RUM for Web Vitals and errors (e.g., Sentry, OpenTelemetry), propagate trace headers to APIs, sample wisely, and build dashboards for vitals, JS errors, and route-level latency. -
How would you integrate GraphQL efficiently in Next.js?
Use codegen for type-safe hooks, persisted queries to improve cache/CDNability, server-side execution in RSC where possible, and normalized caching client-side for interactive views. -
When do you use WebSockets vs SSE for real-time features, and how do you scale them?
SSE for one-way streaming and simplicity; WebSockets for bi-directional presence/controls. Scale via a broker (e.g., Redis pub/sub), sticky sessions (or a stateful gateway), and backoff/reconnect logic on the client.
π Job Summary
